Mother's Day Gift Ideas

jewelry4.jpg

With Mother's Day fast approaching, we decided to share some thoughtful gift ideas for the special lady (or ladies) in your life: 1. Custom Photo Books: Gerald & Joan has long been creating photo books for family and friends. To us, a photo book is one of the very best gifts you can give because you are sharing special memories that will be passed down for generations. Photo books are modern photo albums and work great with iPhone photos, scanned pictures or camera images. Our pricing depends on the scope of the project, but we will do what we can to work with any budget! Contact us to learn more.

2. Dressing Table Items: Women love to feel pretty, and what makes them feel prettier than a dressing table filled with vintage perfume bottles and painted porcelain trinkets? These were handed down from Joan and are a part of our personal collection. However, we would be happy to help you find a few that would be perfect for your mom!

3. Jewelry: Women love jewelry. If you can't afford diamonds, consider a colorful vintage piece. We love brooches, beads, enamel and fun earrings. Oh, and Bakelite. Any of these pieces are perfect for summertime.

4. Party Essentials: Speaking of summer, let's get Mom ready for outdoor dining. Our favorites are vintage table cloths, painted glassware and Pyrex. If you don't want us to find a vintage piece for you, Anthropologie has new whimsical gift ideas that are equally charming.

5. Vintage-inspired photography: Need a last-minute gift idea? Dig through your archives and pop a vintage family photo in a fun frame. You can also send us a new photo, and we'll add vintage-inspired filters and a frame for you.

Need help making or locating the perfect gift for Mom? We're here if you need us!

Collections: Vintage Postcards

This inexpensive collection is vintage postcards from our favorite places. We have found all of these in Memphis over the past five years. Some we have framed, and others we have propped up randomly around our home. A few have messages and stamps, which make them extra special in our eyes. All of these little postcards have inspired the faded sepia tones that we use in our work. We love adding a vintage touch to modern images, and recently created our own version of a vintage postcard for our personal collection. If you have an image that you'd like us to make into a vintage-inspired postcard for you, please let us know! We think these little cards are perfect for all occasions -- weddings, baby announcements and every day correspondence!

Spring Collection Sneak Peek #6

lovenotesguestbook2.jpg

This week we're prepping for Crystel's sister's (and Joan's youngest granddaughter's) wedding festivities, so if you're wondering why everything seems very romantic, that's why! For these projects, we used custom fabrics that the bride loved, as well as burlap and some vintage fabric, lace and ribbon. The results are just what we envisioned, and we hope the happy couple will love them just as much as we do. [gallery type="square" ids="924,925,928,923,926,929,927"]

Collections: Children's Literature

What do you collect? If you're like us, you probably have several collections. Our biggest collections include books, pottery, linens, records, but the list goes on and on. Some might say our mid-century cottage is bursting at the seams with these collections, but our home tells our story and it feels like us and the people who matter most to us. More than anything, we really enjoy being surrounded by meaningful objects and family heirlooms. Some of our collections were actually started because of our family heirlooms, and have grown because we enjoy hunting and finding good treasures to add to our loot! Today we have our children's book collection to share with you. I had several of my grandmother's and mother's (children's) books as a child, and I think that's where my fascination with vintage books began. Everything about these books is special -- from the detailed illustrations to the imperfect pages to the brightly colored covers. Even though I haven't read Heidi, The One Hundred and One Dalmatians or The Wind in the Willows in years and years, I want to read them again after turning a few of their pages. I always loved the stories that made you feel as though you were a part of them, and these ones certainly do that!

Take a look for yourself. Aren't they stunning?
